Seven seats is a number that decides a booking on its own. Either everybody fits in one vehicle or you are hiring two, and the second option costs more and takes longer at both ends of the day.
The Mercedes V-Class is the default: eight seats, a flat floor, doors that slide rather than swing — which matters in a hotel forecourt — and enough space behind the third row to carry the luggage as well as the people. The EQV is the electric one, and the Vito takes nine, the most of anything here.
Where the day wants a car rather than a van: the Audi Q7 seats seven with a proper boot, the Volvo XC90 does the same and is the family answer, and the Range Rover LWB Autobiography seats seven in something nobody would call a people carrier. The eight-seat Land Rover Defender 130 is the version for a shoot, a ski transfer or a wedding where the guests move as a group. The Hyundai i800 is the plain, roomy option for when the job is eight people and their bags and nothing else.

The Mercedes Vito is the one with nine seats, across three rows. The eight-seat Land Rover Defender carries three rows too, and so does the Hyundai i800. The V-Class is sold in seven- and eight-seat layouts and the electric EQV in the same ones. The Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 seat seven in three rows, with the back pair better suited to children or a short run. The Range Rover LWB Autobiography puts its extra length into rear legroom, and we confirm its layout on the actual car rather than assume it, so tell us the head count when you enquire.
More than people expect. The V-Class, the EQV and the Hyundai i800 have doors that slide on both sides, so nobody needs swing room in a hotel forecourt and the middle row is easy to step past on the way to the back. The Vito has a sliding side door as well. The Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 are five-door cars that load through a tailgate, the Range Rover LWB Autobiography has four doors and a split tailgate that opens in two halves, and the eight-seat Defender has a side-hinged rear door, which wants clearance behind the car.
Less than the seat count suggests, which is worth knowing before you choose rather than after. The V-Class and the EQV keep luggage space behind the back row, which is why they suit an airport run, and the Hyundai i800 has a square tailgate boot behind its eight seats. In the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 the boot is small with the third row up; fold it down, into the floor on the Volvo, and either takes a family's cases. The eight-seat Defender leaves a slot behind row three, so pack soft bags. On the nine-seat Vito it depends on the wheelbase, so ask.
Yes. Child seats are fitted and checked when the vehicle is delivered, so tell us how many and the ages when you enquire. The Audi Q7 has Isofix in the second row and the Volvo XC90 in its middle row, which is where a child seat belongs in a three-row car; the third row is then reached past it, and the Q7's back pair suits children or a short trip rather than adults. In the V-Class the rear seats sit on rails and lift out altogether, and the EQV's are removable too.
