The badge covers the electric i7, an armoured X5 and a car small enough to park on your own street.

Which one to take

Start with who is driving, not with the badge.

BMW is the marque people book when they want the car to be very good and not to be a talking point.

The 7 Series is the chauffeur car — the long one that pulls up outside a hotel and nobody photographs, which is frequently the whole brief. The i7 is the electric version of it: the same rear compartment, and no engine noise at all. The 5 Series is the working executive saloon that most corporate accounts settle on, and the 2 Series is the small one for a week in town when parking is the real constraint.

The X5 is the 4x4, and there is an armoured X5 as well — a genuinely protected vehicle rather than a styling package. That one is worth a phone call rather than a form, because the questions are specific and the answers depend on where you are going.

Everything here goes out chauffeured or self-drive, delivered to an address in London or to any London airport, quoted as one figure with VAT, mileage and comprehensive insurance inside it. The phone is answered Monday to Saturday, 06:00 to 23:00, and Sunday by appointment.

Both are long four-door saloons with five seats, and on both the rear compartment is the point rather than an afterthought: legroom sized for adults who intend to work back there. The i7 is the fully electric one, quiet in a way the other is not, and it is the one to ask for when a call will be taken in the back. Its luggage all goes in the boot, since there is no front compartment. The 7 Series is not electric, and its boot takes three or four large cases, which makes it the simpler car for a day that ends far from a charger.

Not in the way a Defender is, and it is worth saying so before you book one. The X5 drives more like a large estate than a Land Rover: five seats, rear seats that split and fold, a tailgate that opens in upper and lower halves, and an eight-speed automatic that suits a long motorway run with the boot full. That is what it is good at. If the trip ends on a farm track or an estate road, the two Defenders on the Land Rover page are the honest answer instead.

By phone rather than by form. From the outside it is an ordinary X5; the armour is built into the bodywork and the glazing, and the car is far heavier than the standard one, which changes both how it drives and what it costs to fuel. The protection standard is something to go through on the phone rather than publish, along with what it does and does not cover. What is useful from you first is the route, the dates, how many are travelling, and whether you want a driver with it. Ring 0207 046 0048.

Two of them. The 2 Series is the coupé, four seats with the back pair reached past the fronts, and a boot that still takes a couple of large cases. The 135 is the smallest car here and the easiest to leave on a residential street overnight. If the week turns out to be mostly motorway, the 5 Series is the better size for it. Self-drive eligibility is tiered by vehicle — 25 to 70 with a full licence held three years for most of the fleet, 30 to 70 with five years for supercars and premium luxury — and we confirm which applies when you enquire.

Which BMW, and for how long?

Say the dates and one figure comes back for the whole hire, with VAT, mileage, comprehensive insurance and London delivery already inside it. The armoured X5 is a phone call rather than a form: 0207 046 0048, Monday to Saturday, 06:00 to 23:00, and Sunday by appointment.
